Modified on Fri, 12 Jun at 11:59 AM
This article explains the basic checks to carry out if your petrol chainsaw engine is revving unusually high or running faster than expected.
⚠️ Safety Notice
If the engine is running at excessively high speed, stop using the chainsaw and carry out the checks below before continuing operation.
Ensure the chain brake is engaged and the chainsaw is in a safe location before inspection.
Possible Causes & Basic Checks
Check the Throttle Cable
- Inspect the throttle cable for any signs of damage.
- Ensure the cable is not kinked, trapped, or obstructed.
- A damaged or restricted cable may prevent the throttle from returning correctly.
Check the Choke Position
- Ensure the choke has been fully disengaged after starting.
- Operating with the choke engaged can affect engine performance.
Reset the Throttle Hold
- Press and release the throttle trigger to ensure the throttle hold function has reset correctly.
- This allows the throttle to return to its normal operating position.
Check the Trigger Cable Guide
- Ensure the trigger cable guide is correctly seated in its recess where it exits the handle.
- If the cable guide is not positioned correctly, it may interfere with normal throttle operation.
If the Issue Persists
If the engine continues to run at excessive speed after completing the checks above, please stop using the chainsaw and contact our Technical Support Team for further assistance.
✔️ Summary
