How do I prepare my Petrol Chainsaw for Winter

Modified on Fri, 12 Jun at 12:45 PM

This article explains how to prepare your petrol chainsaw for winter storage to help prevent fuel issues and starting problems when the machine is next used.

⚠️ Safety Notice

Ensure the chainsaw is switched off and completely cooled before carrying out any maintenance.

Work in a well-ventilated area away from any sources of ignition, as fuel is highly flammable.

Preparing Your Chainsaw for Winter Storage

Follow these steps to correctly prepare your chainsaw:

  1. Drain any remaining fuel from the fuel tank.
    • This helps prevent fuel degradation and residue build-up during storage.
  2. Run the engine until all remaining fuel in the carburettor has been used.
  3. Press the primer bulb to help clear any remaining fuel from the system.
  4. Attempt to start the chainsaw.
    • If it does not start, the fuel system has been successfully emptied.

Storage Instructions

  • Store the chainsaw in a clean, dry location.
  • Avoid damp environments to prevent corrosion and component damage.

✔️ Summary

  • Drain fuel from the tank
  • Run engine to empty carburettor
  • Use primer bulb and attempt restart to confirm empty system
  • Store in a dry location
