How do I replace the oil pump on my Petrol Chainsaw

This article explains the procedure for replacing the oil pump on your petrol chainsaw.

Ensure the chainsaw is switched off, fully cooled, and disconnected from any fuel source before starting work.

Tools Required
- Clutch removal tool
- Piston stop
- Torx bit (T20)
- 13mm socket
- Replacement oil pump
Oil Pump Replacement Procedure
1. Remove Chain Brake Assembly
- Remove the chain brake assembly using the 2 x 13mm nuts.
2. Remove the Clutch
- Insert the piston stop into the spark plug hole.
- Use the clutch removal tool to rotate the clutch clockwise (towards OFF).
- The clutch may be tight at first before loosening.
- Continue until the clutch is fully removed.

3. Access the Oil Pump
- Remove the top two screws on the black cover behind the clutch using a T20 Torx bit.
- Remove the cover to expose the oil pump.
4. Remove the Oil Pump
- Unscrew the 2 x Torx screws securing the oil pump.
- Take care with the earth cable located on the top right screw.


5. Install the New Oil Pump
- Fit the new oil pump into position.
- Reconnect the oil pipes and earth cable.
- Tighten the oil pump screws securely.
6. Reassemble the Chainsaw
- Refit the black cover (2 x Torx screws).
- Reinstall the clutch using the clutch tool.
- Tighten the clutch by hand (anti-clockwise) until secure, but do not overtighten.
- Ensure the clutch rotates freely and all components are correctly seated.
7. Refit Cutting Components
- Reinstall the chain, guide bar, and chain brake assembly.
8. Final Check
- Ensure all parts are correctly fitted and secure.
- Test operation carefully before use.
