Modified on Thu, 11 Jun at 4:00 PM
This article explains what to check if the chain on your electric chainsaw is not moving.
⚠️ Safety Notice
Ensure the chainsaw is switched off and disconnected from the power supply before carrying out any inspection or adjustments.
Wear suitable protective gloves when handling the chain.
Possible Causes & Basic Checks
Check the Chain Brake
- Ensure the chainsaw is switched on and ready for use.
- Check that the chain brake is fully disengaged.
- If the chain brake is engaged, the chain will not rotate.
Check the Chain and Bar Condition
- Inspect the chain and guide bar for any visible damage.
- If either the chain or bar is damaged, they will need to be replaced before further use.
Chain Tension
- Ensure the chain is correctly tensioned.
- Each chain link should be able to lift slightly from the bar, but the drive links should remain seated in the guide bar groove.
- The chain should be able to rotate smoothly around the bar when moved by hand (using gloves).
